The 2nd Annual Lowell Film Festival
"Food, Fair Trade and the Global Economy"
Friday - Sunday
April 3 - 5, 2009
What defines Fair Trade? What is “sustainable living?” How do we as consumers play a
positive role in the Global Economy? The City of Lowell’s 2nd Annual Film
Festival faces these questions head-on with film programs & panel discussions on
the issues of fair trade, garment production, sustainability, and food supply &
demand in today’s complex global market. Programming includes:
- Official Opening Night Reception / Friday, April 3
- Opening Night After-Party
- Guest speakers and panel discussions throughout the weekend
- A Fair Trade “Market” featuring businesses, organizations, and retailers who embrace fair trade practices
- Sunday Wrap-Up Brunch / Sunday, April 5
The Lowell Film Festival is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!
Due to popular demand, we will RE-SCREEN the film on Tuesday, April 14 at 7PM at the Lowell National Park Visitor Center. General admission seating, free admission!
The City's 2nd Annual Lowell Film Festival could not have been such a success without the help of so many people. We wish to thank the City of Lowell, the Lowell National Historical Park, the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, and the Cultural Organization of Lowell for supporting and organizing such a tremendous event.
Thank you to our funders, and to those who supported us in-kind: Massachusetts Cultural Council, Mass Humanities, UMass Lowell Fair Trade Program, 119 Gallery, Pollard Memorial Library, and Enterprise Bank.
To our venue hosts -- thank you for opening your doors to the Film Festival: The Revolving Museum, Lowell National Historical Park, New England Quilt Museum, Pollard Memorial Library, 119 Gallery, Mickey's Bar & Grill, Life Alive Urban Oasis & Cafe, UMass Lowell O'Leary Library, and Caffé Paradiso (for hosting our Wrap-Up Brunch).
The Festival could not have happened without technical support from our tech gurus: Eric Sack (Lowell Telecommunication Corporation) and Justin Kwan.
And finally, we thank our incredibly devoted and fantastic volunteers, AND you -- our audience. Our volunteers were the backbone of the project, and made the entire weekend possible. They welcomed visitors, shuffled signage around, counted heads, introduced films and guest speakers, tidied up venues, and did all of that with smiles on their faces! Our audiences CAME OUT, and supported the event. Our hard work would mean nothing if no one had arrived to be witness to it. Our volunteers and audiences: two very necessary components to this Festival, and future ones!
Please mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual Lowell Film Festival! First weekend in April - 2010!
